Community groups awarded University donations

A number of different community initiatives including a Christmas food bank, a gardening project and sporting activities have been supported by 蚂蚁福利导航 University in its first round of community donations for the academic year.

The annual Community Donation Fund programme has been operating since 2009 and aims to support charities and voluntary groups across Charnwood.

After a call for bids to the ‘Open’ Fund in October, a large amount of applications were submitted. The lucky recipients of funding totalling £6,000 are:

Purchase appropriate furniture and storage for library space being remodelled

Purchase a climbing wall as part of a project for young people with autism

Purchase camping equipment to take Guides on trip

Rawlins Basketball Club

Replace equipment that is no longer fit for purpose including basketballs, basketball bags and training bibs

Shepshed Foodbank

Provide each weekly recipient with a Christmas hamper including basic essentials and more luxury items

Shepshed Toy Library

Funding for urgent and essential repairs to entrance ramp of library to provide safe access to visitors and volunteers

Funding to take young people on trip to Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre

蚂蚁福利导航 Town of Sanctuary

Provides vouchers so asylum seekers and their children can enjoy drinks for free at John Storer House

The Exaireo Trust

Funding for the continuation of The Ethos Project, designed to help residents identify the type of the work they would like to do and complete work experience 

Chapman Street Gardeners

Purchase an industrial mower for large extent of lawns they mow themselves and also replace their current gazebo

Shelthorpe Dynamo FC

Funding to support expenses for the team including pitch hire, a new team strip and trophy or award for players awards evening

Stakeholder Relations Manager at the University, Alison Barlow, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting some fantastic organisations with their projects for another year.

“Many of these groups do amazing work for the community but often face financial difficulties making it hard for them to run the projects or activities they’d like to. We’re happy we can lend them a hand and act as a support system.”
